Helmut Marko rejects rumors about a “mysterious” new suspension from Red Bull

Helmut Marko has said Red Bull won

After narrowly defeated Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton, Red Bull team advisor Dr. Helmut Marko discarded the rumors about a new Red Bull suspension for the Imola Grand Prix.

In an interview with the Austrian outlet Sport1, Dr. Marko:

“This is total nonsense. We already rode with this ‘mysterious’ suspension at the start in Bahrain.”

The 77-year-old claimed the RB16B’s suspension was nothing special and that the team’s only requirement was a system that could match the new Honda engine. Marko added:

“It’s nothing special either, but we had to design it because we needed a chassis that would fit the extremely narrow and taut rear end that we built around the new, smaller and more compact Honda engine this season.”

Red Bull Motorsport Director Helmut Marko considers rumors that Red Bull will be driving to Imola next week with a “mysterious” rear suspension on his RB16B as “total nonsense”. https://t.co/6NwrFZ1CN2

Red Bull does not bring any upgrades to Imola: Helmut Marko

Despite the superior car and the defeat against Mercedes, Helmut Marko claims that Red Bull will stick to the same package as in Bahrain. The Austrian believes that if the car is used properly, the team can challenge Mercedes at the Imola Grand Prix:

“I don’t know what Mercedes is developing. But we are relying on the package that we had in Bahrain and we simply didn’t make the most of it there.”

However, Helmut Marko also indicated that Red Bull is still on par with the Silver Arrows despite the painfully narrow defeat against Mercedes:

“We are still licking our wounds. However, compared to last season, there are rather small scratches because we are on par with Mercedes, the fastest team.”

Red Bull and Mercedes will stop again when Formula 1 returns to action at the Imola Grand Prix in Italy. Red Bull will have the incentive to perform well this weekend given the tough end to the race in Bahrain.

Max Verstappen hopes to win the Imola Grand Prix against Lewis Hamilton, who won the race last season. The Dutchman will want to avoid his performance on the track in 2020 when he retired from the race after a puncture.
