Scuderia Ferrari gave Charles Leclerc a very special gift to expand his collection – his race-winning SF90 from the 2019 Formula 1 season.

Leclerc will have fond memories of the 2019 season, his first with Ferrari after replacing Kimi Raikkonen on the team – especially the first Ferrari to win at Monza since Fernando Alonso in 2010 – and captured the hearts of the Tifosi.

Ferrari is looking to recover from its worst season in 40 years in 2020. Leclerc is now partner of the Spaniard Carlos Sainz Jnr. The team finishes sixth among the designers.

With their new challenger, who has seen some significant changes including an all-new engine, revised aerodynamics and changes to the rear of the car, they want to take on Mercedes and Red Bull this season.

And it started well in Bahrain for the opening race of the season, where Leclerc showed he was impressed with the pace of the car in practice and ended up finishing sixth and eighth respectively. Both Ferraris reached the points only five times in 17 races last year.

It’s very difficult to find the words to describe what I felt during this race [at Monza]”said Leclerc about the win after the Autosport International in 2020.

“I was under a lot of pressure – the whole team was under a lot of pressure – because we were obviously in Italy.

Ferrari is huge in Italy and everyone wanted us to win. The whole team was under a lot of pressure.

“The week started on Monday, which is very different from the other Grand Prix as we normally start as drivers on Thursday, but we started on Monday with some events in Milan and things like that.

“So the pressure built up. Then it was something special to drive pole, but then I had to concentrate on the race and in the race I had no room to breathe.

“I had Lewis the whole race in less than two seconds, I think, so a lot of pressure.

“And then being on the podium, finally winning the race and seeing the Red Army under the podium was something very special.

“It scared me and made me realize what it’s like to be a Ferrari driver, which of course I noticed a bit before, but I think you really notice it when you win at Monza and see the passion [that] You can really see in people’s eyes – the passion they have for the brand.

“It’s amazing to see.”
