Bobby Fong won Superbike Race Two at Road Atlanta, overtaking Mathew Scholtz in the closing laps after Scholtz experienced a technical problem

Bobby Fong won Superbike Race Two at Road Atlanta on Sunday, overtaking Mathew Scholtz in the final laps of the opening round of the 2026 Quad Lock Superbike Championship. Fong passed Scholtz with two laps remaining after Scholtz experienced a technical problem that caused a sudden drop in pace, officials said.

The race, held Sunday at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia, marked the second contest of the opening round of the 2026 Quad Lock Superbike Championship.

Fong, riding for Attack Performance Progressive Yamaha Racing on a Yamaha YZF-R1, completed the 19-lap race with a winning margin of 2.921 seconds, according to official timing records.

Throughout most of the race, Fong trailed polesitter Mathew Scholtz by less than half a second, maintaining pressure for 17 laps before making his decisive move. Officials confirmed that Fong attempted multiple passes at Turn 10A before successfully overtaking Scholtz on the backstretch with two laps remaining. The pass came shortly after Scholtz experienced a technical problem, which caused a sudden drop in pace down the backstretch, sources said. Despite the issue, Scholtz held on to second place, finishing 6.270 seconds ahead of the third-place rider.

Scholtz, riding a Strack Racing Yamaha YZF-R1, had won Race One on Saturday and entered Race Two as the polesitter. According to race officials, the technical problem emerged just two laps from the finish, disrupting Scholtz’s rhythm after nearly the entire race spent leading or closely contesting the lead. Scholtz is a two-time consecutive MotoAmerica Supersport champion and is returning to the premier Quad Lock Superbike Championship after a two-year hiatus, records show.

The race featured a competitive field, with third place finishing a significant 6.270 seconds behind Scholtz. JD Beach, also competing for Attack Performance Progressive Yamaha on a Yamaha YZF-R1, secured fourth place, while Cameron Beaubier advanced from a 20th starting position to finish fifth. Beaubier’s strong weekend performance places him third in the championship points standings after the first round, according to official points tallies. Cameron Petersen, riding a Wrench Motorcycle Ducati Panigale V4 R, finished sixth.

Fong’s fastest lap time was recorded at 1:24.1, demonstrating consistent pace throughout the race, according to lap timing data. The event took place during the first weekend of the 50th anniversary of Superbike racing, adding historical significance to the championship opener. The Quad Lock Superbike Championship’s round one at Road Atlanta concluded Sunday, setting the stage for the upcoming rounds in the 2026 season.
