Carsales global ambassador shows how sideways you can get the British automaker’s newest hybrid supercar
McLaren has released a new video of its star F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo driving his latest Artura way over the limit on a test track in the UK.
Ricciardo was filmed last month as part of the inclusion of the Australian hero on the McLaren F1 racing team and is believed to be among the first outside the Woking-based engineering team to mass-produce McLaren’s first plug-in hybrid supercars.
It’s fair to say he didn’t miss the opportunity to push the $ 455,000 (plus ORCs) way beyond their limits and effortlessly drive 500kW Artura on the Brands Hatch circuit.
Ricciardo not only keeps the rival of McLaren on their toes with cars like the Ferrari F8 Tributo, but also demonstrates the all-electric driving mode of the electrified supercar.
The Artura, which was fully presented in February, is developing into one of the most exciting cars of 2021. From its striking design to the brand new ultra-light carbon fiber architecture to its technically advanced 3.0-liter V6 with two turbochargers in combination with an electric motor and a battery With 70 kW / 225 Nm and an output of 500 kW and a torque of 720 Nm, the new entry-level McLaren has the technology and firepower to dominate its highly competitive class.
In terms of performance, McLaren says the Artura destroyed the 0 to 100 km / h sprint in just 3.0 seconds. 0-200 km / h in 8.3 s; and 0-300 km / h in 21.5 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 330 km / h.
On the other hand, the Artura is considered to be the most fuel-efficient McLaren ever produced. In the combined EU-WLTP cycle, it consumes a miserable 5.5 l / 100 km and emits only 129 g / km CO2.
As Ricciardo cleverly demonstrates, the 7.4 kWh battery supports a range of 30 km with just electricity.
Other new extras that ensure McLaren’s newest driver company car is up to the task include a lightweight eight-speed dual-clutch transmission that shifts in 200 milliseconds, using the torque from the electric motor to transition from a gear ratio to smooth to the next.
Interestingly, the transmission does not require reverse gear, as the electric motor instead runs backwards whenever you need reverse gear.
Finally, a completely new concept of rear suspension and the first electronically controlled rear axle differential from McLaren, which make it possible to separate the full accessibility of the vehicle’s dynamic behavior from its high-speed stability.
There are three riding modes – Comfort, Sport, and Track – each of which adjusts the stiffness of the dampers as well as the settings for the E-Diff to ensure the Artura is at home or on the track.
Ricciardo, meanwhile, is hoping for a better result at the Italian GP this weekend.
In his first race for McLaren in Bahrain, the Carsales global ambassador only managed to finish seventh.
Ricciardo’s team-mate Lando Norris outperformed the Perth-born Australian and finished the race in a very respectable fourth place.
