When it comes to a car that inspires lust and admiration like the McLaren F1, it may come as no surprise that owners’ attitudes towards mileage and maintenance vary widely. Take this 1995 McLaren F1 that came from a collection in Japan. It’s amazingly original except for its original Goodyear tires. All in all, only 242 miles grace the odometer – and now it’s up for sale at Gooding & Company’s Pebble Beach auction in mid-August.

A few years ago in MSO’s surprisingly small workshop we came across an owner’s used (and popular) used (and popular) F1 that was under maintenance. It had probably exceeded 242 miles in the month before it came to the store for regular overhaul. In other words, the F1 is a superbly usable supercar, and yet the decision to maintain or drive one has consequences – and rewards.
In addition, this particular, chassis no. 029, is not only unique in its condition. The color – Creighton Brown – is one of a kind that pays special attention to an executive who helped found the automaker. This executive’s full name happened to be Creighton Brown. He had a long association with McLaren Cars co-founder Ron Dennis on the racing side of the business before the road car company was founded in 1990. The color is muted but elegant, and the origin of the name is just another tradition. increases the attractiveness of this car for the die-hard McLaren enthusiast.
In addition to its remarkable state of preservation, this F1 comes with a wide range of original accessories, tools and documentation. There’s even an extremely rare Tag Heuer 6,000 chronograph – one of only 64 made exclusively for F1 owners, according to watch experts at Hodinkee.

The entirety of the specificity of the F1 means that the prices of the few that have been made are now in the stratosphere. Gooding & Company estimates this sale will exceed $ 15,000,000. The car will cross the block at the Pebble Beach Parc du Concours on Friday, August 13th.
