Cameron Beaubier won Race Two of the Superbike weekend Sunday at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, defeating championship leader Bobby Fong by 1.1 seconds. The victory cut Beaubier’s points deficit to eight, narrowing the gap in the season standings, officials said.
Beaubier entered the weekend trailing Fong by 17 points in the Superbike championship standings, according to official records. Josh Herrin, who finished third in Sunday’s Race Two and won Race One, remains third in the championship, 22 points behind Fong.
After two races at Circuit of the Americas, Beaubier has reduced the gap to eight points, with Fong holding 314 points and Beaubier at 306, officials said.
Race Two unfolded with Beaubier making aggressive moves on the opening lap, sources confirmed. He engaged in close battles with Fong in the early laps to establish his position. On lap seven, Beaubier nearly crashed but quickly recovered, according to race reports. Following the near incident, he caught and repassed Fong to take the lead. Beaubier then managed to maintain his advantage over the remaining laps, crossing the finish line 1.1 seconds ahead of Fong.
Fong attempted a late-race pass in the final corners but was unable to overtake Beaubier, race officials said. Despite finishing second, Fong’s result was sufficient to preserve his lead in the championship standings. Herrin finished third in Race Two, 14.2 seconds behind the winner, demonstrating consistent pace but unable to challenge the top two riders, sources indicated.
The two-race weekend at Circuit of the Americas set up a dramatic championship battle heading into the season finale. Herrin’s victory in Race One and Beaubier’s win in Race Two created a split result that tightened the points race, records show. Beaubier’s runner-up finish in Race One kept him competitive despite trailing in points, while Fong’s third-place finish in the opening race allowed him to maintain the championship lead.
The season finale is scheduled for two weeks after the COTA event at New Jersey Motorsports Park, according to official announcements. The finale will feature a tripleheader format with three races, offering a total of 75 points. Any of the three championship leaders—Fong, Beaubier, or Herrin—remain in contention for the title based on the points available at NJMP.
Herrin’s performance at COTA demonstrated both strength and vulnerability relative to Beaubier and Fong. His win in Race One showed competitive pace, but his third-place finish in Race Two left him trailing the top two riders by a substantial margin, according to race data. He remains third in the championship standings with an outside chance at the title.
The results from Circuit of the Americas have intensified the championship race, with the top three riders separated by 22 points as they prepare for the final rounds. Officials confirmed that the New Jersey Motorsports Park event will be decisive in determining the season champion.
