With a fourth place at the season opener in Bahrain, followed by a podium in Imola last weekend, Norris beat Ricciardo, who has been described by many as a tough challenge for the star in the third year.
However, Ricciardo was quick to see his own shortcomings this season and stated that he can get more pace out of the car if he gets used to it and assigns his cap to his teammate.
Ricciardo was ordered to let Norris by During the Emilia Romagna GP last weekend, the 31-year-old accepted a decision.
“Sixth, the result looks good on paper, but I wasn’t quick,” he said.
“A bit like most of the weekend, but obviously Lando was on the podium and at least had a faster pace for most of the race.
“On the one hand, I think that’s really positive, but on my part, of course, I don’t have to find out what’s going wrong, just what I can do better.
I don’t want to be too hard on myself, but I’ll take defeat right now and just work and see what I can do better. “
Ricciardo needed time to adjust to the Renault F1 team after leaving Red Bull in 2019 for the French manufacturer before taking two podiums in 2020.
The highly competitive Aussie will no doubt hope to get a grip on the much more competitive McLaren much sooner.
“If I personally can’t get the most out of it yet, the obvious thing that gives me confidence is exploring the car’s potential. It’s there and it’s pretty good, ”said Ricciardo.
The story goes on
“It can do more than I think, it can go so far that it just brings more speed through the corners and the car gets stuck. So there is a little bit of confidence in the car.
“But I don’t think it is, just turn around and close your eyes and it will stay. Much of it is also technology.
“And I’m not trying to use those as past excuses, but there are probably some old habits that I need to flush out a bit and things that may not work that well for this car.”
Mick Schumacher’s turbulent start to his F1 career
While Ricciardo is not 100% satisfied with his start to the season, F1 rookie Mick Schumacher has described being stuck in an uncompetitive Haas as “torture”.
The son of legendary driver Michael Schumacher, who made his Formula 1 debut at the Bahrain Grand Prix three weeks ago, was the last finisher and was overtaken by the majority of his rivals.
Schumacher then drove two laps in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix on Sundayand joined Haas teammate Nikita Mazepin.

“I don’t really notice what I’m doing when I’m in the car. Let’s say facial expressions or feelings. I just love to drive so I can enjoy what I’m doing,” he told Channel 4.
“And I don’t enjoy it when I’m not the first, so it’s kind of torture that goes on your back with no real competition.”
Despite the two 16th places, the young driver remains optimistic about his slow start in life at the elite level.
“That’s why I have to do a Grand Prix for myself, so let’s say I have Nicholas [Latifi] In front of me or (George) Russell, for me it is like they are the leaders and I have to catch them, ”he continued.
“This is the game I play to always stay motivated, keep pushing and always be 100%.”
The younger Schumacher won the Formula 2 and Formula 3 titles on his way to F1.
