They’ve only raced alongside each other for three grands prix but Ferrari teammates Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have shown that they’re already becoming better drivers as they learn from each other.
Leclerc finished sixth at Portimao on Sunday, both showing he’s taken a lot more than a handful of points over the weekend.

When asked what he learned from teammate Sainz in their short time together, Leclerc explained: “Sure I learned how he drives; he drives very differently from Seb [Vettel] drove last year. And it’s always very interesting to see how he works with the engineers and how he works and how he looks at things. So yeah, I’m definitely learning a lot from him.”
Sainz, who is preparing for his seventh home grand prix this weekend – and first with Ferrari – after a disappointing 11th place in Portugal, expanded on what he learned from Leclerc. And it turns out the Spaniard has gained a lot from his Monegasque counterpart, from set-up to driving style and beyond.
“I think from the outside it looked like a positive weekend going into the race and especially to learn a little bit better how to drive the car I had to learn quite a bit from Charles to take some corners and a certain one Apply riding style or apply or go in one setup direction, then come back and try another,” he said.
“And yes, there is always something to learn. Especially after today’s race I think it’s my first difficult race with Ferrari, my first difficult Sunday, let’s put it that way, where things didn’t quite go to plan. And there is a lot of thinking, a lot of analysis, a lot of self-criticism and trying to see what we can do better for the future.”

Ferrari’s new signing Sainz has finished in the top 10 in each of his Spanish Grand Prix appearances and is hoping to do the same in his latest appearance as he sits 14 points behind Leclerc in the drivers’ standings with the Scuderia just 11 behind McLaren in the Constructor Score.
