At the driver press conference in Portimao, Vettel said: “Of course it’s decided, so we’ll try. The reasons for this are probably two ways to explain this, but the official one is that this should be more exciting. We’ll see if it’s more exciting. I hope it is. “

The plan to introduce this new feature on an F1 weekend has been given the green light. They will try three races this year. The venues have not yet been confirmed, however, but it is rumored that Silverstone and Monza will be involved.

The German driver is keen to stick to the saying: “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” But he doesn’t mind trying out the new format. If it works, well and good. If this is not the case, Vettel would like the F1 to stick to the classic qualifying sessions.
He said, “If it turns out to be more exciting and people like it, we may all have to reset and adjust. If they don’t like it and we don’t like it, we should go back. I’m generally against creating a mess on purpose or you might roll the dice.

“But we will see. Hopefully the cars will move closer and closer together so that we don’t have to think about these things anymore. But as I said, now I’m pretty open and we’ll see how it turns out. “

The new format could certainly prove to be a refreshing spectacle if it takes place. But for now all eyes will be on Sunday’s race in Portugal.
Vettel himself will be very keen to get on the track as soon as possible. His first two races at Aston Martin were a real nightmare. The German is hoping for a much better weekend this time. Can he open his points list for the season? We’ll find out soon.
