Ferrari F1 team drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz finished fifth and sixth. The Alpine F1 drivers Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso followed the Ferraris in eighth and ninth respectively. McLaren driver Lando Norris scored the last points and ended up in tenth place.
Red Bull Racing drivers Verstappen and Perez jumped into first and third place at the start of the race. The pole sitters Bottas and Sainz were downgraded to second and fourth place. However, due to several incidents during the chaotic start, the two Red Bull F1 cars failed to overtake the rest.
On lap 1, Norris had contact with Sainz’s car, drove into the McLaren pits and left debris all over the track. When McLaren came into the pits to change the tires, Norris suffered a puncture and Yuki Tsunoda came into contact with Lance Stroll on lap 4 and littered the track with further debris.
In the meantime, Hamilton had made up five starting positions in the second lap and thus avoided the chaos at the start. On lap 4 he was fourth. On lap 6, the Tsunoda and Stroll incident brought out the safety car that helped Hamilton swap places with his teammate, who was in third place.
