The 2021 Imola Grand Prix has all the ingredients to be a classic after Lewis Hamilton beat both Red Bulls to secure pole position for Sunday’s main event. The seven-time world champion took pole position for the Imola Grand Prix with 1:14: 411. There was also a personal milestone for Hamilton, as it was the 99th pole position of his brilliant career.
Red Bull is right behind Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes. To the surprise of many, Red Bull’s new signing Sergio Perez beat team-mate Max Verstappen to qualify in the front row. The Mexican was just 0.035 seconds behind Hamilton. Max Verstappen finished third and was just 0.087 seconds behind pole time.
The Imola Grand Prix is Scuderia Ferrari’s home race and the Prancing Horse had a mixed qualification. Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc qualified for an impressive P4, but his teammate Carlos Sainz qualified for a low P11.
Valtteri Bottas was the biggest loser in qualifying. The Finn never got going in the third quarter and qualified for P8. Lando Norris was another driver who ran out of luck in the third quarter. The young Brit was P2 before his lap time was canceled because the track restrictions were exceeded. The Imola Grand Prix looks promising for Williams, who qualified both cars for the second quarter.
