Daniil Medvedev

Tennis star Daniil Medvedev took his fans for a spin on Friday when he revealed he has karted alongside Formula 1 stars Alex Albon and Daniil Kvyat. The tennis star, who recently missed the Australian Open in the final, said in his latest post that he was quitting the sport. Medvedev shared a series of pictures and videos of him from the karting event, showing he was good at what he did.

Daniil Medvedev joined Formula 1 stars Alex Albon and Daniil Kvyat in a karting event earlier this week that has now raised questions as to whether he is considering switching sports. Medvedev is one of the biggest names in tennis right now as the Russian star continues to grow year on year. In early 2021, he had won his first Grand Slam tournament by defeating the legendary Novak Djokovic in the US Open final. He then reached the final of the recent Australian Open, where he eventually lost to 21-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal.

Career change at Daniil Medvedev?

Now Medvedev is back in the news, but with different skills. The 25-year-old tennis star is trying his hand at karting and seems to be enjoying his time. Medvedev is also close to F1 racer Kvyat, who last drove in 2020, which continues to cast doubt on fans. However, it could all be a joke, as many fans noted in the comments. Several of his fans also asked Medvedev to continue with tennis and soon take the top spot in the sport.

It is noteworthy to say that the tennis star appeared to know what he was doing on the circuit, as zoomed past corners of the track in a video he shared on Twitter. Meanwhile, the Russian star also made a hilarious comment in response to a fan who shared his picture in a racing suit and claimed to be signed by the Red Bull Racing F1 team. Medvedev replied, asking the F1 team who he would replace on the grid under Max Verstappen and Checo Perez.

Medvedev loses to Nadal in an epic Australian Open final

It was a grueling final as Nadal faced US Open champion Daniil Medvedev in the final but the 35-year-old made an incredible comeback from two sets down to win 2-6 6-7(2) 6-4 , 6-4, 7-5. Medvedev caused all sorts of problems for Nadal early on in the first and second sets as he claimed them both. Early in the third set, both players started where they left off as Nadal forced Medvedev to tackle six times before the Russian eventually won the first game. With a score of 4-4, Nadal scored two break points and won the second to give himself a huge advantage by serving for the set in the decider. When he pitched for the set, he had three set points in hand, but only needed one. Nadal was back in the match with a 6-4 win in the third set.

In the fourth set, Medvedev seemed to have lost his momentum when Nadal broke the Russian’s serve himself in the third game. He then won the set 6-4 and made an incredible comeback into the game at two sets a piece. The fifth and final was the icing on the cake for tennis fans as it didn’t let anyone down in terms of entertainment and thrills. Both players traded games on their service to hold the score until Nadal Medvedev broke. Serving for the championship, Nadal didn’t disappoint and ended up winning the set 7-5 and also the incredible final of the Australian Open 2022.
