Ahead of the 2021 Mexican GP, reigning F1 champion Lewis Hamilton has expressed his desire to win the title fairly and fairly. The Brit explained the need to win the title on fair terms and not with a clash with rival Max Verstappen on the track.
Hamilton’s comments were in response to what Mercedes CEO Toto Wolff told The Daily Mail. The Austrian predicted a possible scenario for another clash between the two title contenders before the end of the season.
Amid the heat of the highly competitive 2021 F1 season, Hamilton and Verstappen have clashed four times this year, with the youngest at Monza finishing the race for both. Many considered the incidents inevitable as both men wanted to claim this year’s title.
But they also recalled similar rivalries from the past, such as the one between Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost in 1990 or even Hamilton’s own conflict with Nico Rosberg in 2016.

The Brit also stressed that he has to be an inspiration for younger riders joining the ranks. Stressing the importance of leading by example on the track, Hamilton said:
“He (Verstappen) is still a young man and will grow tremendously over the next decade, and I think everyone will be excited. So, yes, I only try if I can set a good example because, as I said, I know a lot of young people, especially those who drive, who pay attention to what I do and what I say, and that is important to me. ”

Hamilton and Verstappen have each won two races in Mexico. However, the track and its conditions have traditionally favored Red Bull Racing. With a gap of 12 points between the two and only five races left on the calendar, it will be interesting to see which of the two competitors wins this weekend at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico.
