Does the Brazilian Grand Prix follow the sprint format this weekend?

The 2021 Brazil Grand Prix will feature the sprint format at the Interlagos circuit in Sao Paulo.

The Formula 1 Grand Prix in Brazil, which will be held on the Autódromo José Carlos Pace race track in Sao Paulo from November 12 to 14, 2021, will be held in the new sprint format. The sprint format will include an additional sprint race on Saturday, November 13th, after the second free practice session.

Brazil will host the third F1 sprint race of the season and the last on the calendar. The last two sprint races were held at the Silverstone Circuit in Great Britain and the Monza Circuit in Italy. The first two sprint races spiced up the race weekend in terms of track action and were welcomed by fans and spectators.

The F1 sprint weekend includes two practice sessions, a sprint race, a qualifying and a main race. The sprint race covers 100 km, which is a third of the normal race distance. Without mandatory pit stops, the race will include 24 laps on the 4.309 km long circuit in Brazil.

With a free choice of tires, the winner of the sprint race receives three points, followed by the runner-up who scores two points, while the third-placed winner scores one point. The fastest race lap does not receive an extra point as in the main race on Sunday.

The starting grid for the Sprint F1 race is determined by the ranking in qualifying on Friday. The target order of the sprint race determines the starting grid for the main race on Sunday.

The final F1 sprint format weekend took place at the Italian Grand Prix

Valtteri Bottas won the race on the last sprint format weekend in Monza. He is flanked by Max Verstappen, who came second, and Daniel Ricciardo, who came third in the sprint race.

Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen won the first F1 sprint race at the British Grand Prix weekend in Silverstone, while Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas won the second sprint race at the Italian Grand Prix weekend in Monza. Both sprint races are famous for the clash between the two title protagonists, Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton.

Although Bottas started from the end of the grid due to engine faults, Bottas won the sprint format at the Italian Grand Prix. The Finn won the race ahead of Verstappen, who came in second, and McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo, who came in third.

A bad start meant that Hamilton dropped to fourth place on the grid for Sunday’s premier F1 race.

The main race on the Italian GP weekend was famous for the iconic clash between Verstappen and Hamilton, in which neither finished the race.
