MotoAmerica Superbike Championship Kicks Off with Fong-Scholtz Duel at Road Atlanta Opener

The MotoAmerica Superbike Championship kicked off April 17-19, 2026, at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta as part of the Speedfest weekend. The event featured a highly anticipated duel between top riders Fong and Scholtz on one of the season’s most demanding circuits, officials said.

The MotoAmerica Superbike Championship began its 2026 season with a highly competitive event at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta from April 17-19, officials said. The Speedfest weekend featured qualifying on Friday and full-day racing on Saturday and Sunday, drawing more than 120 riders across six classes, including the premier Quad Lock Superbike division, Supersport, Mission King Of The Baggers, Twins Cup, Talent Cup, and Royal Enfield Build.Train.Race., according to MotoAmerica organizers.

Troy Herfoss, riding for J&P Cycles/Motul/Vance & Hines Factory Indian, leads the King Of The Baggers standings with 45 points after four races, sources noted.

The centerpiece of the event was the duel between top Superbike riders Fong and Scholtz on one of the season’s most demanding circuits, sources confirmed. Road Atlanta’s 2.54-mile track is known for its technical complexity and high-speed sections, with Superbikes reaching speeds up to 190 mph, officials said. The intense competition between Fong and Scholtz set the tone for the championship, continuing rivalries that have defined the premier class in recent seasons.

Support classes also featured prominently throughout the weekend. The Supersport Championship continued its season at Road Atlanta after earlier rounds, while the Mission King Of The Baggers series held its second round following Daytona. The championship has been marked by fierce competition between Indian Motorcycle and Harley-Davidson teams, with Herfoss aboard the Indian Challenger maintaining an early advantage.

In the Twins Cup, Australian rider Sam Drane of Yamaha BLU CRU Estenson Racing maintained his lead after a Race Two victory at Daytona, officials said. Drane demonstrated strong performance in drafting battles at the season opener, with Road Atlanta presenting new challenges that emphasize precision riding over drafting tactics, sources explained. The Twins Cup championship has been characterized by razor-thin margins through its opening rounds.

The Talent Cup and Royal Enfield Build.Train.Race. classes also joined the lineup at Road Atlanta, with the Royal Enfield series launching its 2026 season at this event, MotoAmerica representatives confirmed. These support classes provide a platform for emerging talent and diverse motorcycle brands within the broader championship framework.

The event offered fan-friendly features, including free admission for children under 12 with a paying adult, according to promotional materials. The Kids Zone featured carnival games, balance bikes, an electric bicycle area, a stunt show, and a bike show. Fans had access to free motorcycle demo rides with paid admission, while VIP and camping packages were available, with RV check-in starting Thursday at 1 p.m., organizers said. The open paddock allowed spectators to meet and interact with riders, enhancing the family-oriented atmosphere of Speedfest.

Historical context for the event points to Road Atlanta’s significance on the MotoAmerica calendar. The 2024 opener saw Jake Gagne secure pole position with a lap time of 1:23.453, records show. The 2026 event continues the tradition of high-level competition on this circuit, which challenges riders with its combination of technical corners and high-speed straights.

The MotoAmerica series continues to provide a comprehensive racing schedule, with full calendars and current standings available on the official MotoAmerica website, sources confirmed. The championship will proceed with further rounds across the six classes, maintaining momentum established at the Road Atlanta opener.
