Hank Vossberg highsided his Aprilia RS 660 in Turn 4 during the early stages of Twins Cup Race 2 Sunday at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. The crash, followed shortly by a second incident involving Logan Cunnison, triggered a red flag that halted the race and led to a shortened five-lap restart, officials said.
The red flag stopped the original eight-lap race after Vossberg’s highside left his Aprilia RS 660 on the asphalt at Turn 4 during the early stages of the event Sunday at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, officials said. Shortly after, Logan Cunnison of Speed Demon Racing crashed his own Aprilia RS 660, leaving his bike in a hazardous position on the track and prompting race control to halt the competition for safety reasons, according to Road Racing World.
Vossberg finished second in the resumed race, securing 20 points toward the Twins Cup championship standings.
Despite the dramatic start, Vossberg, who rides for the Robem Engineering team, was able to remount his machine during the red flag period and rejoin the shortened five-lap restart, sources confirmed. His performance followed a victory in Race 1 on Saturday, where he edged out the competition by 0.279 seconds and set the fastest lap at 1:33.424, according to MotoAmerica records.
Cunnison, who started Race 2 from fourth position, had also achieved a podium finish with third place in Race 1, contributing to Aprilia’s strong showing at Road Atlanta. Aprilia’s official statement dated April 22, 2026, highlighted the brand’s competitive presence, noting that at least three Aprilia RS 660 motorcycles consistently appeared in the top 10 throughout the weekend’s sessions. The statement also confirmed Vossberg’s leadership in the Twins Cup overall standings with 86 points, maintaining a 23-point advantage over his nearest rival.
The incidents at Turn 4 unfolded during the second round of the 2025 Twins Cup season, an intermediate class championship under the MotoAmerica umbrella. The race stoppage underscored the challenges riders faced on the technical circuit at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, where safety protocols require immediate action when debris or disabled machinery endangers participants.
While no other riders were directly involved in the Turn 4 crashes, the red flag affected the race dynamics and final results, according to officials. MotoAmerica coverage noted that despite the bruising from his highside, Vossberg’s ability to return to the podium demonstrated resilience, contributing valuable points toward his championship campaign.
The Aprilia RS 660’s continued success at Road Atlanta reinforced the manufacturer’s competitive edge in the Twins Cup class, with both Robem Engineering and Speed Demon Racing fielding strong entries. The season’s next rounds will determine whether Vossberg can extend his points lead and maintain his position atop the standings as the championship progresses.
