Why does Red Bull no longer have an advantage over Mercedes F1 at Silverstone?

Why does Red Bull no longer have an advantage over Mercedes F1 at Silverstone?

Red Bull has been in excellent shape in the past races and took the lead in the standings. However, ahead of the UK Grand Prix this weekend, some have suggested that Mercedes could bounce back. According to former F1 driver Marc Surer, there is a simple explanation for Red Bull’s recent glowing form.

Surer said, “The Honda engine always runs well at high altitudes. In Mexico they drove around the others in a circle. Things always went well in Brazil too.

“Now we have the Red Bull Ring as a route, which is also around 700 meters. The thin air seems to help the engine. “

Another theory is that Honda’s turbo vanes are larger than Mercedes’ turbo vanes. As a result, the Mercedes W12 performs better at normal height.

Surer admitted it was just a theory; however, there is evidence of it. According to him, past races have shown that greater altitude benefits the Honda engine.

Where does Mercedes have an advantage over Red Bull?

According to Surer’s analysis, the Mercedes team especially likes the track layout. Since the W12 has a long wheelbase, it shines in the long corners.

In other words, the car is much quieter and more comfortable. So a track like Silverstone will be of great benefit to the Mercedes team.

The big question now is whether Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton will get their season back on track. Or will the Red Bull freight train continue to roll over them all?

To make it even spicier, there are McLaren and Ferrari, which could be dark horses. Of course, everyone is aware that this weekend will be a special one, because F1 is testing a new format. To be precise, F1 is introducing the sprint racing system to determine the starting grid for Sunday’s race.
