The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix marks the end of Bottas’ time at Mercedes before moving to Alfa Romeo in 2022.

Bottas finished second behind Lewis Hamilton twice – in 2019 and 2020, although he did not start his teammates in either season.

Considering his time at Mercedes, Bottas says there are “a lot of positives” even though he didn’t achieve his goal of winning the world championship.

“Mixed feelings,” said Bottas in Abu Dhabi. “When I joined the team in 2017, of course, I was only thinking of winning the championship, but that didn’t happen.

“But I have to see the positives, I’ve grown so much as a driver and as a person I’ve learned a lot with this team and we’ve achieved pretty cool things together, so there are a lot of positives.

“I think you are never completely satisfied in this sport. But in five years I will have achieved something and I am sure that it will help me in the future. “

Since Hamilton was involved in a gigantic title fight with Max Verstappen, Bottas confirmed again that he is ready to help his teammate to win the title on Sunday.

“For my very own weekend, the goal is of course to maximize my performance,” explained Bottas. “Of course I’ll try to qualify for pole position, that’s my goal for Saturday, and then try to win the race if I can.

“But it all depends on the situation. Lewis, he doesn’t really have to win the race, he has to finish before Max, so it is. Let’s see how it goes, but I’m definitely ready to play as a team as I’ve secured my third place. So as long as we get the constructors’ championship, I’m ready to help my team get to the top in both championships.

“That depends on the situation, but of course I prefer my team-mate to win than my opponent, so he’ll definitely get my support.”

Looking ahead to this weekend, Bottas believes the significant track changes will improve the race.

“Positive, I have a feeling they made good changes to the track, at least it looks like it,” he added. “In theory, it should be better for racing. I think the changes were necessary so I think they went well. “
