Valtteri Bottas will leave Mercedes at the end of the current season, but that doesn’t mean that his ambition to fight at the top in Formula 1 has diminished. The Finn will compete for Alfa Romeo in 2022 and has vowed to “give everything to get to the top” despite the team’s difficulties in the current campaign.
Alfa Romeo has only scored three points so far in 2021, thanks to a trio of ten places.
Antonio Giovinazzi got the ball rolling by scoring the team’s first point in Monaco before Kimi Raikkonen narrowly scooped the points in Azerbaijan and at the Hungaroring.
Only Haas, who is by far the least competitive designer on the grid, is behind Alfa in the overall standings – neither Mick Schumacher nor Nikita Mazepin have scored a point so far.
Regardless, Bottas is interested in improving the fate of the ailing team when he replaces the outgoing Raikkonen next year.
“Realistically speaking, fighting for victories next year will be unlikely, but you never know,” said the Finn.
