Nick Fry: I am very excited to be joining McLaren Applied

Former Mercedes F1 Team CEO Nick Fry will return to McLaren Applied, celebrating his return to sport at the highest level since he was replaced by Toto Wolff in 2013.

Prior to that, Fry was Managing Director of the BAR F1 Team and Dave Richards’ Prodrive operations; Most recently he headed the commercial strategy for the eSports start-up Fnatic.

Notably, he reappears at the same time as old enemy Martin Whitmarsh returns to the F1 landscape with his appointment as Chief Executive Officer of Performance Technologies for the Aston Martin Group.

How much Fry will be involved in the F1 race under the direction of Zak Brown and team principal Andreas Seidl remains to be seen.

McLaren Applied today announced the appointment of Nick Fry as non-executive chairman, effective immediately. Fry is the former Chief Executive Officer of the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula 1 Team and has a long track record in the automotive and motorsport industries, including as Managing Director at Aston Martin and Prodrive and in several senior management positions at Ford Motor Company.

Fry marks the first board-level appointment since Greybull Capital acquired McLaren Applied in August 2021 and marks a strengthening of the company’s leadership and governance at the beginning of an important phase in McLaren Applied’s development.
