As a youngster, F1 legend Michael Schumacher represented Luxembourg more than his home country Germany. Netflix is preparing to release its highly anticipated documentary “Schumacher” on September 15th.

The film, which was released on the 30th anniversary of Schumacher’s debut in Formula 1, traces the path of the seven-time world champion from karting to the premier class of motorsport and looks at his life away from the racetrack.

In the new Netflix documentary, there is a scene in which a TV presenter attends a go-karting event in 1983.

Microphone in hand, the moderator looks into the camera and stages the audience.

“A total of 18 nations with around 80 drivers compete here,” he says.

“But in Luxembourg we are the only competitors, it doesn’t cost anything and we qualify.”

It’s this smart and forward-thinking mentality that has made Schumacher the greatest driver in the history of the sport.

Schumacher’s son Mick is currently enjoying – or enduring – his debut season in Formula 1 with the Haas team.

Mick survived a difficult season with the ailing Haas in 2021 and finished 19th.
