Mercedes F1 strategist Vowles takes part in the Asian Le Mans Series – Motorsport Week

Mercedes Formula 1 strategist James Vowles will compete in the Asian Le Mans Series this month.

Vowles was a longtime member of Mercedes’ Formula One team, which joined in the 2000s before the manufacturer’s return, and was its chief strategist throughout the title run.

The Asian Le Mans Series, consisting of four events, takes place from 12./13. February and 19./20. February at the Dubai Autodrome and the Yas Marina Circuit.

Vowles will get behind the wheel of the #59 McLaren 720S GT3 for the Garage 59 team.

He will partner with Manuel Maldonado and Nicolai Kjærgaard for the championship.

“I’m really happy with the driver line-up we won for Asian Le Mans,” said Garage 59 Team Principal Andrew Kirkaldy.

“We are all looking forward to getting started with the McLaren 720S and hopefully getting our first win of the season. Certainly it will also come in handy to have one of the best strategists in F1 on the team.”

Vowles will return to his main job at Mercedes ahead of the 2022 season.
