Mercedes won seven constructors’ championships at a trot, but survived several difficult races. One of them was the 2019 German Grand Prix, at which Mercedes celebrated its 125th anniversary in motorsport.
In addition to various activities, the men and women of the Silver Arrows wore traditional clothing for this special occasion. In addition, they have given their two F1 cars, which are driven by Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, a special, one-off paint job.
While preparations for the weekend went well, the race on Sunday was terrible for the reigning world champion. In difficult weather conditions, Hamilton slipped off the track and damaged his front wing. This forced him to get into the box, where it only got worse. Since the Mercedes pit crew was not ready yet, they forced Hamilton to make an almost one-minute pit stop.
Bottas slipped off the track a few laps later to round off one of the worst weekends for the Silver Arrows. Although the incident is over two years old, Mercedes didn’t hold back from pulling on its own leg. Along with a tweet showing their failure at Hockenheim, they shared a follow-up tweet that read, “We looked good. But at what cost? “
