Hamilton explains why Bottas is different to previous team-mates

Lewis Hamilton revealed how Valtteri Bottas differs from the rest of his teammates in Formula 1.

In an interview with Sky Italia, Hamilton said: “I recently commented on my current team-mate. This is the first time I’ve had a team-mate that we really really communicate with in our tech room.

“There are never any secrets between us. We both try to improve each other. In the end we want to beat each other, but we want to help each other be the better version of ourselves and I’ve never known that with any other driver before.”

Hamilton learned from every teammate

Russell will be Hamilton’s sixth team-mate in Formula 1 after Fernando Alonso, Heikki Kovalainen, Jenson Button, Nico Rosberg and Bottas.

When asked which of the previous drivers posed the greatest challenge as a team-mate, Hamilton said: “To be honest, I’ve always been in a different place when I’ve faced all these different faces in my life.

“I was a kid when I came to Alonso, I was a kid. Just belief and talent, but not mature enough to handle anything else.

“I was in a different position than I was with Heikki, I was in a different position than I was with Jenson, in a different position than I was with Nico.

“You learn different things from each and every one of them. Each of them was a challenge, you can never beat your teammate all the time, he’ll either learn from you at some point or vice versa and that will be his mistake.

“I wouldn’t change it for the world, the journey I made with all of them, good or bad.”
