He was clearly in no mood to fool around and overtook three other karts before the end of the first lap.

Just a minute or so into the race, Hamilton was already in fifth place as he made easy a field with the best British racing prospects of the time.

One of them was Alex Lloyd, a good friend of the future F1 greats who would later have a good career in the IndyCar series – the highlight was a fourth place finish in the 2010 edition of the prestigious Indianapolis 500.

However, that day he was powerless to stop the attack on Hamilton – as were the others out there on the track.
