Alexandre Premat is perhaps the only one who says he enjoyed his time as Hamilton’s teammate and remembers a time when the now seven-time world champion was too young to drive. He said:
“He was a younger guy; I remember he couldn’t drive so I drove him to races and between airports. We had dinner together the whole time, so we were a strong couple. He was a good person to me and the team, a real hard worker and a cool guy. ”
Alexandre Premat has known Lewis Hamilton since his karting days in the 1990s, but got to know the boy from Stevenage properly in 2002 in Formula Renault. The duo drove side by side in the GP2 series, now known as Formula 2, for the French ART Grand Prix team in 2006, but managed to maintain a good friendship despite fighting on the track.
Premat said of her GP2 days:
“When he was my team-mate in GP2 in 2006, the feeling was very good straight away, we knew that he would only stay in GP2 for one year, he wanted to do the same as Nico Rosberg.” [get into F1]. He tried to get as much as possible from me and the team to win the championship but the relationship between him and me throughout GP2 was very fantastic and I was a good teammate for him. ”

“I think as a racing driver his heart will say ‘I have to keep going’ because he is at the peak of his game. But we have to overcome the pain that was inflicted on him on Sunday, also because he is a man with clear values, it is difficult to understand that that happened. ”
