Seven-time driver champion Lewis Hamilton explained in a recent interview what helped him to get a new “drive” to make him “stronger than ever” in F1. The Briton explained how the desire to be the leading voice in the fight against racism and promote positive change in the community has helped him become more motivated and better in all walks of life, including racing.

The F1 legend has consistently advocated for off-track change using her name to give meaning to the Black Lives Matter campaign. Most recently, the 36-year-old paid young black designer to attend the Met Gala 2021 to promote their work.

Lewis Hamilton declares a desire to reduce racism in the community

Speaking to Sky Sports, Lewis Hamilton said, “It was just before the start of the season and I thought we’ve been through a time, Black Lives Matter, kneel down, what’s the next step and how do we go about it? And so I came up with this idea – how about working with some aspiring black designers to design the shirts, and then working with a young black British poet and developing something meaningful, and by the end of the year we become one have real story to tell. And that’s what it’s about, it’s about a story and about stimulating this conversation. “

The Mercedes F1 driver added that it was important to “spark this conversation” as people “talk less about Black Live’s matter and inclusivity”. Hamilton believes they need to spread awareness because “things have not yet been fixed”. He added that it was good that the sport was talking about ending racism and increasing “diversity and inclusion, sustainability and all these things” but it was his and the other drivers’ responsibility to make sure that the Sport was “actually” chasing these things. ‘

Hamilton then went on to explain how this new “drive” helps him achieve a “real purpose” which, among other things, helps him improve his racing. When asked if this new ‘drive’ is helping him in his race, Hamilton replied, “I think so, yes. It’s like my new drive, and I feel like it gives me more longevity because He’s a lot of work we have to do. I feel like it gives my life a real purpose, too. Racing ain’t no purpose. It’s something you do. “
