Lewis Hamilton joined the Mercedes F1 team in the 2013 season, replacing Michael Schumacher. He dominated the turbo hybrid era and won six of the last eight drivers’ championships. The Brit had a fierce rivalry with teammate Nico Rosberg during his time at Mercedes.

The two drivers were at the peak of their strengths and this often led to friction within the team. A clip recently re-surfaced on social media in which Hamilton was clear to himself in this rivalry. The Briton defended his aggressive driving style and the exhaustion on the track in the fight against the German.

Many internet users found parallels between his rivalry with Rosberg and that with Verstappen in the last season in 2021. On the track, the two front runners fought a bitter duel that resulted in several collisions and several falls.

Lewis Hamilton isn’t here to make friends

The two Mercedes drivers at the time had a good relationship in their association early on. Even in the early stages of the rivalry, they consistently insisted that their friendship would survive the hassle and stress of fighting for the World Cup. But this was not the case.

The mood in the team continued to deteriorate, as the two drivers even refused to share a room at times. In an old interview, Hamilton stressed that he wasn’t in Formula 1 to make friends. He refused to compromise on the track and even give his opponent an inch.

“You have to be tough. Can’t be nice out there. You can’t be, hey, there’s some space here. Rather, they say I’ll take it. I’m here in business, I’m not here to make friends, ”said the seven-time world champion.

Hamilton versus Rosberg in Extreme E

The F1 battle between the two world champions ended at the end of the 2016 season. Rosberg said goodbye to the sport for family reasons and Hamilton never looked back and won 20 consecutive championships from 2017. Their rivalry has taken a different shape; the teams of the two drivers compete in the Extreme E championship.

The two teams delivered a final showdown on Sunday in Dorset, UK. Nico Rosberg last laughed when Rosberg X Racing took the title.
