Valtteri Bottas says he made the decision to move to Alfa Romeo in 2022 because he wanted a completely new work environment.
At the beginning of the year Mercedes announced that Bottas would leave them at the end of the season. The Brackley-based team decided to replace him with 23-year-old George Russell. The young Briton has been part of Mercedes’ future F1 plans for quite some time.
Bottas, on the other hand, announced that he would switch to Alfa Romeo Racing with a multi-year contract from 2022. The Finnish rider was also heavily linked with a return to the former Team Williams but opted for the Swiss team instead.
The 32-year-old began his F1 career with the Oxfordshire team. He spent 4 seasons with them from 2013 to 2016 and stood on the podium 9 times. Valtteri left her for Mercedes in 2017 and has been with the Silver Arrows ever since.

Alfa Romeo feels like the right thing to me, says Valtteri Bottas
In the most recent episode of the Beyond the Grid podcast, Bottas talked about why he decided to switch to Alfa Romeo and not Williams.
“Williams is on the up now. But I felt that Alfa was right for me. Plus it was kind of nice to go to the power of non-Mercedes not to have a link. Brand new. ”He said.
The 10-time race winner has been driving a Mercedes engine since 2016. He felt it was time to move on. Williams has shown signs of progress throughout the year, but that cannot be said of Alfa Romeo. The team from Hinwil is currently in 9th place in the overall ranking with only 11 points.
Even so, Bottas’ desperate need to distance himself from Mercedes in sports led him to choose Alfa Romeo races over Williams.
