Valtteri Bottas opens up opportunities for rally races after F1

Valtteri Bottas has had an unfortunate season so far. After the Finn had not achieved any victories in the last eleven races, new team orders and team strategies stood in the way of a better start to the season. However, Bottas is looking for his luck to switch in the second half. In an interview with Hypebeast, Bottas explained how military service in Formula 1 helped him.

Bottas was a compelling demand of his country and had to serve for the Finnish military. The Mercedes driver claims to have changed a lot in the time he served his country. “I felt like it turned me from a boy to a man. You will definitely learn more about yourself. ”

Military training is not an easy task. The sub-zero temperatures helped Bottas to gain clarity. He shared an anecdote: “In addition to a lot of cool experiences, I also learned some kind of discipline, and that definitely put things in perspective.”

“I remember doing this training program in the forest for two weeks in a row and having to sleep in these icy conditions. When we got back to base camp, I felt so happy to just be in a real bed in a room. “

The physical demands of sport are unique. Bottas describes how difficult it can be to train for Formula 1. “The more years you have in sport, in single-seater formula and especially in Formula 1, the body gets used to it, but since we have 23 races and tests, it puts a strain on you.”

Bottas finds time on the weekends to train for the upcoming race. But best of all he trains for him on the track, in the cockpit.

He is trained in the military and knows what to do to be physically fit for the sport. “I love cardio, so I do a lot of sports like cycling or running, but I also do strength training when I can. In the off-season we train even harder, sometimes twice a day, because you absolutely have to be fit. “

While the riders take a break in the sun, Bottas spends his free time trekking and cycling with his Olympic friend Tiffany Cromwell. Will Bottas start the second half of the season with more luck when the Belgian GP approaches?
