George Russell – Mercedes?

With the future of Valtteri Bottas still in the air, it seems more and more plausible that Russell could be competing next season as Hamilton’s team-mate in a Mercedes.

Bottas recently criticized the team for the “unnecessary pressure” put on him by the series of one-year contracts since joining Mercedes in 2017, adding that the lack of job security may have affected his racing skills.

With his last short-term contract, which expires at the end of the current season and Russell is collecting points in his Williams, the Finn’s time at Mercedes could soon be coming to an end.

Russell has already driven a Mercedes car and seemed to be taking victory at Sakhir in 2020 before a pit stop mistake and subsequent tire damage put an end to his hopes for a fairytale victory.

If Toto Wolff and the Mercedes hierarchy decide to replace Bottas with Russell, Hamilton could have another title rival in his new team-mate.

Sergio Perez – Red Bull

Anyone who joins Red Bull has to get used to living in the shadow of Max Verstappen very quickly – this also applies to Perez.

While his teammate is battling for the title with Hamilton, the Mexican is 79 points behind and hopes to end the current season as the best of the others.

That would be a good result for Perez in his first season at Red Bull. While his future with the Austrian team is somewhat uncertain, he is expected to continue in 2022.
