Horner denies that Red Bull tried to hunt ex-Mercedes F1 engine guru Cowell | to oblige F1

After Cowell had been part of Mercedes-AMG High-Performance Powertrains (HPP) for 16 years, he stepped down as managing director in the middle of last year.

Cowell was instrumental in Mercedes’ dominance in the hybrid era, winning six driver and designer competitions during his tenure.

After Honda quits the sport at the end of the season, Red Bull will be responsible for making its own engines.

Red Bull Powertrains was created as a consequence and is on a serious recruiting offensive.

The Milton Keynes team have already signed Ben Hodgkinson from Mercedes, while they confirmed five more signings from the reigning world champion earlier this month.

Horner has denied any suggestions that Red Bull tried to sign Cowell.

“Obviously there is a lot of media out there on these issues as employees join this obviously new company, but I can say I was surprised to read that story this morning that Andy apparently agreed to join us because he didn’t is the case, “said Horner in Monaco.

Toto Wolff was asked about the same rumors.

“I talk to Andy about different things every week and it doesn’t seem like he’s going to Red Bull to me,” added Wolff. “But we saw a lot of black swans in this sport. At the moment I think he is not going there.

“It would be a big surprise [if he joined Red Bull] because it would mean that it is different from what we discussed, but nothing prevents him from making a decision on whether to continue his entrepreneurial journey or return to Formula 1 in another role. “
