It’s called Bussink GT R SpeedLegend and was designed by Roland A. Bussink, who then commissioned HWA AG to turn his idea into reality. Only 5 pieces will be made and all of them are sold out.
Bussink is a product designer from Germany with a great passion for the vehicle collection. When he’s not designing his next Ferris wheel, he participates in car-related activities like the Gumball 3000 and other charity rides. You may remember Gumball’s 2018 Red Sau AMG GT RS, which was another Bussink creation. He has been a top Mercedes-Benz customer for decades and has been a member of the exclusive “Circle of Excellence” club for many years.
The GT R SpeedLegend was an idea that began 1.5 years ago and was inspired by the Mercedes-Benz SLR Stirling Moss and Mercedes F1. The SLR Stirling Moss has given traction to modern speed stars like the Ferrari Monza SP, McLaren Elva and the Aston Martin V12 Speedster.
Bussink decided on the AMG GT Roadster as the base car, it is limited to 750 units worldwide and, unlike the GT R Pro, has a special license plate. The 4.0L V8 biturbo in the GT R Roadster develops 577 PS and 700nm torque. 0-100 km / h are reached in 3.8 s, the top speed is 319 km / h. The GT R SpeedLegend sets new standards with a weight saving of up to 100 kg and an increase in performance of 850 hp – these measures should make it significantly faster than the standard GT R Roadster. And it is fully road legal!
Like most Speedsters, the GT R SpeedLegend has no windshield and A-pillars. Widespread use of carbon fiber helps keep weight down and the clear coat finish to match the rest of the body. Perhaps the most striking change is the use of a bespoke Speedbow that resembles a “Y” and runs from the hood to the headrests. It also bears some resemblance to the halo used on F1 cars. Bussink says they built sensors into the Speedbow for safety reasons. In addition, an LED strip (the Speedbow) runs underneath, which can be used as a light source in the open cabin if required.
HWA AG was commissioned to build the GT R SpeedLegend, the engineering office based in Germany is no stranger to AMG vehicles. At the time, Mercedes commissioned them to manufacture the CLK GTR and the CLK DTM AMG. This is because they used to be part of AMG. When Daimler bought AMG in 1999, the motorsport department decided to set up a separate unit called HWA AG. HWA stands for Hans Werner Aufrecht, the founder of AMG.
All 5 GT R SpeedLegends are sold out, but Bussink says there will be more projects between him and HWA in the future. You can find more information about the GT R SpeedLegend on the official Instagram page.
