Hamilton admits it will be "tough" beating Verstappen to the F1 title | F1

Hamilton stormed to his 100th Grand Prix victory last time at the Sochi Autodrom to regain the lead in the drivers’ championship.

The gap is only two points with seven laps remaining after Verstappen recovered from the end of the grid and finished second in Russia.

Looking at the upcoming fight, Hamilton said, “Well, it’s going to be tough, no doubt. I think they have been ahead for two thirds of the season so far. However, it was obviously difficult with all sorts of things being sent to both of us and our teams.

“There is still everything to play in the next races. I think they have a good number of tracks up and about and I assume we will be very close between us or just continue to stand together. I just have to hope for a few good races. “

Hamilton believes he and Mercedes haven’t maximized their chances in 2021 and are calling for an improvement in the final third of the year.

“Look, it’s not just the two races, there have been a lot of races where we as a team, both drivers and everyone, didn’t get the maximum out of it, but we’re still fighting and we can keep improving,” added Hamilton.

“There are definitely things that we will try and do better to move forward, but we just won’t give up, we’ll just keep trying, keep pushing, stay hopeful and just do the job.”
