Their partnership has led to speculation that Hamilton may have to fight a rival again within his own team, as he did when he entered the sport with Fernando Alonso and later Nico Rosberg.
With this in mind, 1996 World Champion Damon Hill has warned Russell against going into the new campaign with his new teammate with all guns.
Instead, he believes that the first year of this new partnership at Mercedes will be an opportunity for Russell to really learn his trade and for Hamilton to pass on some of his experience and knowledge to the much younger Briton.
“I think it will be great to see. I’m sure Lewis will want to encourage George. I don’t see it going wrong,” Hill told Express Sport.
