Lewis Hamilton superfan sells Mercedes to protest the controversial F1 season finale

A Lewis Hamilton superfan sold his Mercedes after the F1 team decided not to contest the stewards’ decision at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

In an interview with The Sun, the frustrated UK Hamilton supporter named Neil Steele said:

“Selling the car is petty and has no material impact, but I feel better and on principle. I will not support a team or brand that puts politics above justice. We, the fans, feel tremendously let down and question the values of Toto Wolff and Mercedes. “

Steele has put his luxury SUV from the German manufacturer – a Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S – up for sale on social media in protest against Mercedes’ decision.

In addition, Steele accused the team of “selling out” and abandoning their moral responsibility to defend Lewis Hamilton.

“As a traveling fan, I am frustrated that a Formula 1 world title was decided by an FIA race director under such unsavory circumstances. I trusted the Mercedes team that they would pursue their legal appeals to redress injustices without realistic expectations of a change in outcome moral obligation to protect sporting integrity just to sell the fans and Lewis Hamilton. ”

Mercedes held two protest rallies at the FIA against the final classification of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and Max Verstappen’s F1 title. They accused race director Michael Masi of abusing his powers and Verstappen of overtaking Hamilton in front of the safety car line when restarting the last lap.

However, the Abu Dhabi stewards ruled against Mercedes in both cases and confirmed Max Verstappen as F1 World Champion in 2021. In the meantime, the team had the right to appeal the stewards’ decision and bring the matter to the International Court of Appeal. Shortly after the Stewards’ decision, the Brackley-based team announced their intention to appeal to the FIA. However, after a few days of back and forth with the FIA, the team decided not to continue.

“Valtteri Bottas cost Lewis Hamilton his title”: Jolyon Palmer

Jolyon Palmer believes Valtteri Bottas’ poor performance in Abu Dhabi cost Lewis Hamilton his eighth world title. The former Renault F1 driver claimed that Red Bull could drive to Max Verstappen without Bottas and therefore decided on the offensive.

Palmer said on the BBC checkered flag podcast:

“Bottas was shocked. Did that cost Hamilton the title? If Bottas is within a pit stop window of Verstappen, Verstappen does not easily have “free” stops. “

In his last race as Lewis Hamilton’s team-mate at Mercedes, Bottas qualified sixth behind Sergio Perez’s Red Bull and two other cars. If the light went out, he lost even more positions and fell back to P9 and spent a large part of the race in midfield.
