The Formula 1 summer break is drawing to a close. Almost a month after the last Grand Prix, F1 travels to Belgium. There the racing series goes on the historic Spa-Francorchamps course. As one of the most popular racetracks of the fans in the calendar, racing fans are excited to see how the world’s best drivers are on the popular track.
Max versus Lewis
The summer break for Formula 1 marks the half-way point of the season. In the last few years of Formula 1 racing, the championship is basically decided at this halftime. It really was the absolute dominance of the Mercedes AMG F1 team. After the summer break in 2021, however, the championship looks very different for drivers and designers.
Lewis Hamilton is in his usual top spot in the championship, but Red Bulls Max Verstappen is very close behind. Only eight points separate the two, and with the third-placed driver 74 points behind Verstappen, the current top two are the main competitors. Anything can happen in the championship with 12 races left, but for Hamilton and Verstappen it will be a dog fight until the end.
Is Lando’s and McLaren’s impressive season?
Speaking of drivers in third place: Lando Norris had a breakout season. That’s partly because of his team’s McLaren’s equally impressive season. Many believed that Norris and McLaren would eventually thrive together. However, they did not expect it to happen so quickly. Even McLaren is surprised by its own performance.
Norris has been threatening podium places in almost every race this season. This has helped McLaren finish third in the constructors’ championship with Ferrari. If Lando can keep up his current pace, McLaren will most likely take third place. With a little luck, Lando could even threaten for the driver’s title. But that’s a very long shot.
Who will get on the podium at Spa?
One of the hardest things to predict this F1 season is the podium. The winner is a little easier to predict as Verstappen and Hamilton scrapped him. The other two positions, however, saw a little more parity. So far, 9 different drivers have made it onto the podium at the end of the Grand Prix this season.
There are experienced drivers who have not yet reached the first three stages this season. Daniel Riccardo from McLaren and Fernando Alonso from Apline are the main themes here. Both drivers have immense skill, but have not yet achieved great results. Perhaps one or both of its fortunes will change in Belgium.
