As part of the Red Bull squad, Sainz rose to Formula 1 in 2015 and made his debut alongside the then 17-year-old Verstappen at Toro Rosso.

However, Red Bull took a big risk against Verstappen in 2016 when they promoted the 18-year-old to the main squad mid-season, with Sainz staying on the junior team alongside the recently demoted Daniil Kvyat.

The Dutchman’s career was catapulted into the limelight, but a few years later Sainz took his chance to compete on the grid for one of the most famous teams.

After joining Renault for a season, the Spaniard then spent a year at McLaren alongside Norris before Ferrari offered Leclerc a two-year contract for the 2021 season.

SIMPLE IN:

“No matter who I drove against, whether Max, Nico, Lando or Charles, I never had the feeling of being slower than them or of not being able to do something they can. I beat everyone and always pushed to the limit.

“I see that as an award.

“According to my own assessment, Max, Lando and Charles are among the front runners in the field. I like the challenge of going up against them.

“And they made me a better driver. It also gave me the confidence that I could take on anyone when I came to Ferrari.
