F1 has confirmed the Red Arrows will be allowed to fly over during the 2022 British Grand Prix, days after announcing a total ban on military aircraft flying by during the races. This was confirmed in a report by racingnews365.com.

The Red Arrows have been a mainstay at the Silverstone circuit in recent years and have used older aircraft in their displays. However, F1 took a stance to end all aerial displays that used military aircraft and aircraft that did not use sustainable fuel.

The sport originally made this decision in an attempt to reduce carbon emissions as it wanted to be more sustainable for the future. Another reason for the decision was to eliminate all opportunities for military posturing by host nations of different races.

The concession to the British aerobatic display team comes after a request from British Grand Prix F1 race officials. The concession was made as the Red Arrows do not fly in squadron colors and use retro aircraft rather than current versions of fighter jets used by the UK.

The Red Arrows will also be exempted from using sustainable fuels as their planes cannot run on modern fuel. Red Bull will also be granted a fuel exemption for its flight demonstration ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix on the Spielberg circuit. Regardless of this, the ban on military combat aircraft remains in place.

Lewis Hamilton’s retirement could be ‘an indictment of F1’, says Toto Wolff

While fans can be happy about the Red Arrows’ presence at the British Grand Prix, it remains unclear if they will see Lewis Hamilton at Silverstone in 2022. The Brit, who has won his home race eight times, has reportedly been “disillusioned” since his. Loss to Max Verstappen at the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The Mercedes team boss explained that should Hamilton decide to leave the sport it would be “an indictment against F1”. Wolff made the comments during an interview with Austria’s Kronen Zeitung. He said:

“I really hope we will see him again. It’s the most important part of our sport. It would be an indictment of Formula 1 as a whole if the best driver were to retire on the back of pipe dreams.”

Hamilton has been silent since that loss to Verstappen. He will reportedly decide his future in the sport as the 2021 season finale comes to an end, following the findings of the ongoing FIA internal investigation.
