Hamilton was disqualified from Friday qualifying due to a technical violation with his rear wing and was thus the last place on the grid for the sprint.
He raced through the field to fifth place and will start this weekend from P10 in the Grand Prix with a new engine.
“To be honest, I had no idea what was possible today – I didn’t set a limit or maximum,” said Hamilton.
“When I was at the back of the start before we started on the warm-up lap, I might have seen 10 and thought, ‘Okay, that’s my goal, I have to’ try to get up as much as possible ‘but then I have suddenly tinkered with it much faster and today I really used a lot of different things for motivation. “
“I just never give up, you can never give up.”
“It was tough today: while the team was out talking to the stewards, I was just trying to focus on my work with my engineers and keep morale high with my mechanics and just focus on the job.”
“Do not think about this.”
“Of course it was devastating when I heard about the verdict, but you can’t let that stop you.” “You have to keep your head down and move on.”
“I quickly reset myself, focused on doing what I could and just gave it my all.”
