Otmar Szafnauer is confident that his Aston Martin drivers can bring the team to the top of the grid in 2022. With a new era of the sport kicking off next season due to a series of technical rule changes, the team boss hopes the team can begin challenging front-runners Mercedes, Red Bull and McLaren for points and podiums.
Aston Martin announced an unchanged line-up for the next season, with four-time world champions Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll considered an ideal pairing to bring the team success.
And that despite a season 2021 so far that has not yet brought the results that Szafnauer and team owner Lawrence Stroll would have hoped for in their first season as an Aston Martin team.
After being relegated to third place in the 2020 constructors’ championship under the nickname Racing Point, they hope to have gone one better this time.
Instead, they are 156 points behind the currently third-placed McLaren team and are in seventh place, having been overtaken by Ferrari, Alpine and AlphaTauri so far.
Still, Szafnauer has supported his drivers to get the most out of the team’s 2022 car.
He said, “Lance is one of the most gifted drivers in modern day Formula One, and he’s now adding serious racing skills to that raw talent.

“Sebastian is a four-time world champion who has driven 271 grands prix and won 53. He is also a great addition to our team and we expect both of them to do well in a completely different formula next year.” from the current.
“We never underestimate our opponents so we don’t intend to over-promise, but we know Lance and Sebastian will get the most out of the tools we give them.”
Lawrence Stroll repeated the announced and accused rule changes before the current season, which have “penalized” the team for its poor performance so far.
He said: “The first season for the Aston Martin Cognizant Formula 1 team got off to a disappointing start due to regulatory changes over the winter that put the two teams whose cars use a low-rake aero philosophy at a disadvantage.
“But we have made good progress in the last few months and both Lance and Sebastian have shown great performances.

“You were very unlucky, but we look forward to continuing in 2022 with such an excellent mix of young talent and experienced know-how.”
There have been rumors that this season may have been Vettel’s last in Formula 1 after a long and successful career in the sport, but he will be on the grid for at least another year and hope to be more competitive.
“I’m really looking forward to driving the new generation of Formula 1 cars,” said the 34-year-old.
“They look very different and the new technical regulations should give us cars that can drive much closer than they did recently. More exciting races will be great for both the drivers and the fans.
“The changes are so big that every team will start over, so it will be a great opportunity for us at Aston Martin.”
