For the first time ever, F1 added a sprint racing session to the race weekend at the British Grand Prix, and it was an undeniable success. In the background, however, this makeover caused massive confusion among teams including Mercedes as the weekend session timings were everywhere.

During the usual Mercedes debriefing, James Allison revealed how tough the Silverstone weekend was for the crew. He appreciated that it felt like the whole team had been out of whack all weekend.
And of course his concerns were justified given the numerous changes F1 made to the British GP, with FP1 and the main race on Sunday being the only two sessions left at their usual times.

What did Mercedes F1 say?
Mercedes’s chief technical officer, James, said it was a different work list for the Silverstone weekend. So he assumed he had the nagging feeling of missing a meeting all weekend.
“We’re used to FP1, FP2 on a Friday, then a specific work program on the car. Then in the morning FP3, qualifying and then the race on Sunday. It’s anchored in the racing team in such a way that it sits deep in the bones, ”he said.
“And so we come to a race weekend where the sessions all take place at different times instead. The work list between sessions, a different work list, no more difficult work list, just a different work list. That meant everyone felt unbalanced throughout the weekend.
“Everyone was like, ‘Hey, should I be somewhere else? Is there a meeting I’m supposed to be at that I’ve forgotten? Did I break the curfew? Am I where I’m supposed to be right now? ‘ I felt like I was just out of whack all weekend, ”added James.
When is the next sprint race?
There is still no official announcement from F1 when and where the next sprint race will take place. However, for now, reports suggest that Monza could be one of the two tracks the sprint race will take place this season.

Given the Italian GP is only two race weekends away, the chances are high that F1 will make its official announcement soon.
