Formula 1 driver Kimi Raikkonen announced that he will retire from the sport in late 2021, leaving a legacy that includes a championship, 21 wins and over 100 podiums. Celebrate Finn, 41, who is retiring from Formula 1 by purchasing one of the McLarens he drove in the 2002 season.
This MP4-17, especially chassis 06, made its debut at the European Grand Prix at the Nürburgring, where Raikkonen took 3rd place. The car had slight successes during the 2002 and 2003 seasons and drove a total of 12 times at the hands of Raikkonen and his team-mate David Coulthard. Raikkonen took three second places with chassis 06, but it was Coulthard who was behind the wheel for the best result of the car, a first place at the 2003 Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park.
Hailing from what some call the golden era of F1 sounds, this MP4-17 is currently in its original “A” spec (as opposed to the later 2003 “D” spec) powered by one made by Mercedes -Benz supplied 3.0-liter FO110M V-10 engine with 845 hp and an incredible 18,500 rpm. The MP4-17 Chassis 06 is expected to be auctioned by RM Sotheby’s on September 17, 2021 during its St. Moritz event in Switzerland.Car is estimated at somewhere between 2 and 2.5 million Swiss francs, or roughly 2.2 to 2.7 Sold in millions of dollars at current exchange rates.
