1. The championship status
After 17 races of the season, the battle for the title is closer than ever in the modern hybrid era. But that’s not all. Wars have broken out all over the table and each of them go head to head with very few points to distinguish them.
Mercedes-AMG F1 has to fight really hard with Red Bull Racing for the title in 2021. Mercedes has 460.5 points and is currently in the lead, but this time Honda Red Bull is only 23 points behind.
Every race counts for both teams and Lewis Hamilton will not find it easy to take the title this season as he is only 12 points behind Max Verstappen in the drivers’ standings.
In the downward order, Ferrari and McLaren are fighting for P3 as McLaren leads Ferrari’s 250.5 points with 254 points. Additionally, Ferrari claims to be a strong force to watch out for ahead of the Mexican GP, as both Ferrari drivers received the new powertrain upgrade that has been shown to be beneficial to the package. So that puts the McLaren team a little behind, but they’re not the ones to give up without a fight.
Ultimately, Alpine and AlphaTauri came close in the championship for P5, as a series of disappointing performances by both teams in the last four races brought them to a difference of just 10 points.
Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon are doing well, but are struggling with reliability issues and have also gotten some DNFs this season, which has cost them chances of scoring points. At the AlphaTauri garage, Pierre Gasly has so far put the team’s progress on his shoulders, as Yuki has only recently shown signs of stable and reliable performance.
Will the drivers and teams fight on the track without gloves? Or will they be respectful of each other all weekend? We’ll find out soon enough.
