Only five races left and there is still no clear winner. Max Verstappen is currently leading with 12 points, which is nothing. That’s a DNF for Verstappen and fourth for Hamilton, and they’re tied with four races to go. Everything can happen.
Still, Formula 1 technical guru Mark Hughes carefully studied the remaining races and predicted a result based on various factors.
A Red Bull victory is predicted for the Mexican GP. Mexico City is 6,500 feet above sea level, which isn’t ideal for Merc’s turbo setup. It tends to get hot in thin air, which means it doesn’t work optimally.
The Honda drivetrain in the Red Bull has already proven itself on this track. Verstappen scored a brilliant 1:14 in 2019, but was penalized by three places. In short, Red Bull knows how to set up a car for this track, while Mercedes may be a few steps behind. Max Verstappen is certainly the safest choice it seems.
