Would you like to make a normal McLaren F1 look normal? All you need is one of two McLaren F1 LMs on display at the Peterson Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, California. The McLaren F1 is an iconic automobile born from decades of McLaren racing success and the vision of legendary designer Gordon Murray. Today we have the unique opportunity to take a closer look at the incredibly rare McLaren F1 LM.

If you’ve heard the McLaren of the word in today’s context, you’ve likely visions of their extensive lineup of super and hypercars, all of which somehow look the same, with numbered designations that a McLaren expert has to decipher. But in the 1990s, the only way to drive a McLaren was on a racetrack with a group of sponsors and a racing team that counts on you. That was until the great McLaren F1 hit the scene and gave average people with money the chance to drive a McLaren.

In 2021, you don’t have to be Lando Norris or Danial Riccardo to drive a McLaren and, to be honest, you don’t even have to be that rich. Just ask the myriad of Youtubers who drive their McLarens around like disposable items, waiting to trade them in for the next big thing.

The McLaren F1 was more than a car, it was more of a pinnacle of analog supercars from a time before downsizing and computer assistance were the order of the day. Racing versions of the McLaren F1 won the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1995, helping to cement the F1’s places in automotive history.

Today we’re looking at a one-of-a-kind McLaren F1 LM built to celebrate racing success and enjoy one of the rarest cars ever made.
