Styria GP: Race Team Notes – McLaren

Styria GP: Race Team Notes - McLaren

Lando Norris: “A good race, very straightforward – there wasn’t much going on from my side, but that was a good thing. We didn’t have too much pressure from the cars behind and the cars in front. We were too far ahead, which we expected. We can be happy – P5 is still a very good result for us. Hopefully we can come back next week and do the same. “

Daniel Ricciardo: “The start was great, we moved up to ninth place, positioned ourselves really well on the medium tire and the race looked up from there, and then we lost our power. We were able to fix it on the steering wheel but everything we won we lost and we were back where we started. After that, it was difficult to move in dirty air. I think we should have finished fifth and sixth today like last week. We’ll be doing a reset in the next few days and come back and do it next week – hopefully our luck will turn. “

Andreas Seidl, Team Principal: “Lando ended a very solid weekend today with a very strong and controlled drive on P5. In the first few laps we tried to stay ahead of Checo [Perez] and Valtteri [Bottas], but then we focused on our own race and made sure we finished ahead of our championship rivals. We ended the weekend with mixed feelings, however, as today felt like a missed opportunity. Daniel had a great start from P13 to P9 in the early stages, but then four cars overtook him with a temporary loss of power, which pretty much ended his race. Daniel, I’m sorry.

“Thanks to the entire team here on the track and back at the plant, as well as to our colleagues from Mercedes HPP, who provided us with a competitive car and implemented the race weekend well. Special thanks go to the pit crew who achieved two very good results and who made strong pit stops. We’ll be back with softer tires in five days. We will use the next few days to understand this weekend, with the aim of taking further steps and scoring strong points with both cars at the Austrian Grand Prix. “
