Ricciardo is unsure when he will “do a perfect lap” at McLaren · RaceFans

Daniel Ricciardo, McLaren, Bahrain International Circuit, 2021

Daniel Ricciardo says he felt better prepared for his McLaren debut than when he last moved to a new team. However, the former Renault driver admitted that he is unsure when he will be comfortable in his new car.

After his second team change in three years, Ricciardo believes he’s in better shape this time around.

“It’s hard to really know,” he said. “[From] I remember that in the third race I felt that I had finally had a decent weekend behind me. I’m not saying that I was fully up to date by the third race, but that was okay, I would have overcome that hurdle somehow. “

Ricciardo said he felt “a little more comfortable and prepared” when he made his debut for McLaren, also because he had fewer distractions in Bahrain compared to his home race.

“I feel like I’ve taken a step forward. But knowing when I’ll do a perfect lap, hopefully not for too long, but I can’t answer that at the moment, I’m not sure. “

He was full of praise for how well McLaren prepared him since joining the team earlier this year.

“I think they have worked me pretty well over the past few months. They did an excellent job bringing me up to date and I think they trained me as much as possible on the team.

“Of course I have experience in sports, but I think it takes a lot of effort and time to really use and maximize the new environment. I think it will keep improving. “
