Daniel Ricciardo has admitted he has to adjust even more as he continued to struggle to match McLaren F1 teammate Lando Norris’ pace last time at Imola.
Ricciardo finished in the top seven in the first two laps of the season and is seventh overall in the F1 drivers’ standings.
Despite his respectable number of points, Ricciardo is struggling to stay on par with his team-mate Norris, who finished fourth and third so far this season.
After his first two races, Ricciardo admits it will take longer to get used to the McLaren MCL35M.
“Ultimately, that’s what it is right now,” said Ricciardo. “Of course I would say so far that there is more to adapt to. I mean, I went to Renault so I’m not naive to know that a new team is a new challenge. I would say I thought the transition would have been faster, but then it’s the second race so I don’t want to say, “I was expecting to be on the podium by now.”
“Maybe I’ll be in the next race. But let’s say at least today [at Imola] My pace wasn’t that spectacular so I’ll check it out and work on it. Obviously the Lando reference is strong so I’ll just cut away and do better. “

McLaren team boss Andreas Seidl is still confident that Ricciardo will stay up to date. He cites Carlos Sainz’s move to the team in 2019 and the time it took the Spaniard to adapt to life on the Woking team.
“In general, I think that’s also something I’ve talked about in the past, like with Carlos [Sainz] came to us from Renault, ”added Seidl. “And we saw from other drivers that all of these drivers are very talented and have a lot of experience. They adapt very quickly and instantly.
“But these cars are complex, and finding those last two, three, four, tenths, but also making the difference in how comfortable they are, to push these cars to their limits, is not easy to find and get out of . This will need time.

“It’s no surprise that this is part of the new driver integration process. Based on the experience Daniel has gained in the experience of the team, it is only a matter of a few more race weekends before Daniel feels completely comfortable in our car. “
