Recently Formula 1 released a video asking drivers about the first time they ever got into trouble. McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo had a very interesting answer to this question. The Australian driver confessed that his excessive competitive spirit often got him into trouble.

He said, “So I was always a competitor like I was a kid. That doesn’t mean on the racetrack. I hated losing something. So I played tennis with my cousin. I don’t know if he hit me, I think he got a really good point for me and I was mad. So I went to the net and hit the ball at him at close range. “

Obviously his cousin was crying and Ricciardo’s father was not at all amused by his son’s antics. According to the McLaren driver, Joe Ricciardo gave him a good “clip over the ear”. Needless to say, he taught the young hothead a good lesson.

Of course, the 31-year-old was in a red fog that day. Even so, there’s no excuse for him to whip like that, and his father’s reaction was probably justified. In addition, Daniel Ricciardo has grown and matured very much since then.
A few years later he is a seven-time race winner and has several podium places. After making his F1 debut with HRT in 2011, he moved to Toro Rosso the following season. After a two-year stint, he was promoted to the main Red Bull team, where he scored 7 wins and 31 podiums.

However, he decided to jump ship to Renault in 2019, but left it after the 2020 season. Now for the 2021 Formula 1 season, he has switched to McLaren and is a partner of Lando Norris. Together, the two try to bring McLaren back to its glory days.
